Best Wireless Routers 2017 – Gaming | Large Homes | Streaming

For those who don’t know, a wireless router is basically same as a router, however, both devices share a difference in such a way that the wireless router actually has a wireless access point built into it.

Which means that devices that are Wi-Fi compliant can actually connect to the network that is being routed through this router. The purpose of these wireless routers is pretty simple; to provide internet access to all the devices near us.

Needless to say, wireless routers have become a lot more popular than they used to be in the old days, the major reason behind that is rather simple, more and more people are gaining internet access, and which means that the requirement for router is skyrocketing.

With that said, the wireless router market is flourishing thanks to more and more companies bringing in their best wireless routers. Companies likes Asus, Netgear, D-Link, TP-Link, Arris, and so many others are bringing in their routers to meet the ever growing demand of the consumers, and while that is a good thing, any average consumer who is in the market to buy the wifi router for just a standardized use is often left confused.

In case you are wondering how that happens, it happens mainly because at the current moment, the market is literally filled with wireless routers, and while the experts are fully aware of what they want to buy, the average consumer is often left confused about choosing the best Wi-Fi router/best wireless router.

In order to make things easier, we have actually created a list of some of the best wireless routers that are available in the market for you to buy; to make things even easier, we have also listed down the pros as well as the cons, so it’s easier for you to pick. We are particularly always excited when we see an Asus product, be it a computer peripheral, or a component, and even a router. Asus is a company that knows what they are doing, and you can go through the list to see how we have admired the products by Asus.

Right now, we are looking at the Asus RT-AC5300, one of the flagship wireless routers from Asus that looks more like a spaceship than a router. You can clearly see that Asus has taken some cues from their Republic of Gamer lineup to create one of the most beautiful looking routers.

However, it’s the performance that matters, so, let’s get down to that. The router comes with 8 antennas that are surrounding the rather large footprint, the performance is rock solid with the router topping off all the speed tests we threw at it.

Considering how it’s Asus, and attention to detail is present everywhere, we’re pleased to announce that Asus has put a lot of management features into the wireless router, and another good thing is that this router actually MU-MIMO enabled.

Overall, this is a fantastic router for hardcore gamers, and people who want to stream videos in 4K. The performance is solid, the router looks fantastic, everything just hits the right note, making the Asus RT-AC5300 one of the best wireless routers to come out.
Pros
  • Fantastic, aggressive build quality.
  • Top notch performance on both bands.
  • Tons of features.
Cons
  • Rather large.

Netgear recently decided to refresh their revered Nightawk lineup, and released the ridiculously fast Nighthawk X10, although the is pretty expensive at the moment, and a lot of people are having second thoughts, the good thing is that the reviews are finally available because of the review samples that are being sent out, we received ours, and the testing revealed some interesting results.

For starters, before we begin, you should know that this is perhaps the fastest router out in the market. Last but not the least, before we get down in the details, you need to know that this router manages to push out a crazy speed of 7.2 Gb/ps, and that is the AD7200 in the model number. Now it may seem impossible, but the company has made it possible by combining one 802.11ac and, and one 802.11ad. That’s where the total bandwidth comes from.

According to Netgear, the Nighthawk X10 is quite simply the fastest wireless router in the market, and the claim comes straight from the company itself. We had some doubts in the beginning, but thorough testing revealed that to be true. The Nighthawk X10 manages to blow pretty much every single router that manages to come near the X10, in all seriousness, the router dishes out some serious speeds, and although Netgear didn’t provide a certain number for the Wi-Fi range, the wireless router still managed a pretty impressive Wi-Fi range, the network remains stable, consistent, and doesn’t have even the slightest of hiccups, and that is something certainly impressive, and worth writing home about.

More good things include an ecosystem that is extremely easy to setup, and some of the finest advanced software functions. Unlike some notoriously famous wireless routers, this one does come with its own mobile app that can help you setup with greater ease.

Last but not the least, there are some unique features that we don’t normally see; the first one being the fact that Nighthawk X10 comes with support for Amazon Drive Cloud Backup system, and an advanced NAS system as well. Needless to say, it’s a pretty complete package.

At this point, our only concern is the incredibly huge footprint of this router, so if you are someone with a smaller desk space, we’d suggest you put this in a dedicated shelf or something similar. There’s no word on pricing just yet, but we suspect it won’t be coming cheap considering how it is coming with standards that aren’t even required as of yet.
Pros
  • Incredibly fast wireless and wired speeds.
  • Easy to install and setup.
  • Has a dedicated mobile app.
  • Incredibly wide Wi-Fi range (1,000 square feet, and potentially more)
  • Top of the line Wi-Fi and internet standards
Cons
  • Quite a large footprint.
  • Expensive

Asus is one of the brands that have been solid throughout their tenure in the computer industry, they have created some of the finest computer hardware ranging from motherboards, graphic cards, as well as some of the best gaming peripherals. However, today, we are looking at their Asus RT-AC88U wireless router, and in case you are wondering, it is in fact a dual band router. So, how does Asus fair against all the kings of the hill here? Well, let’s see.

For starters, first look at this router and you can tell that router is made by Asus, it’s not because the company has branding all over this, it’s because the design language it follows.

The router pays an homage to the ROG lineup of products that are released by Asus, and needless to say, it means that Asus RT-AC88U means business, and that’s exactly what it does. Now, such design may be considered a bit too aggressive for a dual band router, but considering how some users do want the design to be there with the performance, it certainly is a good thing.

Now the performance side of things are really good, the router has super-fast performance thanks to the 8 gigabit ports, and the wireless performance is among the best we have seen; both bands are supremely fast in their own departments and don’t disappoint at all.

Asus has done a great job with the software, making it intuitive, and really, really easy to use. Last but not the least, you can even couple this beastly router with an external hard drive just in case you want to use it as a makeshift NAS.

Overall, Asus RT-AC88U is pretty good, and gets the job done, it performs really fast on both bands, looks great, and has a solid build quality. Our only issue is the somewhat questionable performance when coupled with an external hard drive.
Pros
  • Fast, stable, and consistent network performance.
  • Decent wireless coverage on both bands.
  • Aggressively stylish design with solid build quality.
  • Top of the line web interface that is easy to use and intuitive.
Cons
  • Can be a bit expensive for some.
  • NAS performance isn’t as good.

We all know Google for a lot of things, and being an amazing internet provider is one of them, it was inevitable for Google to step into the wireless router business, and they finally did it. The company released the Google Wi-Fi system that can be purchased as a stand-alone or a set of 3 in case you want a larger coverage.

When it comes to hardware and software, Google knows what they are doing, the Google Wi-Fi system is built brilliantly, even the devices look and feel premium, and the accompanying app is even better, providing all the necessary features.

However, we are not here to see how good the app is, or how good the device looks, right? Well, the good thing is that even the performance side of things is really positive, the Google Wi-Fi system provides excellent throughput, and when a Wi-Fi system is created, the range gets even better, making sure that your experience goes without any obstructions, slowdowns, or inconsistencies.

It’s not often we see a product this refined, but seems like Google has made us fall in love with the joys of having a fast r outer all over again. With that out of the way, do keep in mind that the Google Wi-Fi system isn’t something perfect.

There are some small flaws that are found in the router, and the biggest flaw is that there’s absolutely no control for dedicated bands, and there’s no availability of USB storage.

In case you can overlook these issues, the Google Wi-Fi System is well worth the money, and works incredibly well to begin with.

NETGEAR Orbi

Orbi Home WiFi System by NETGEAR.Tri-Band Mesh WiFi

The first wireless router on our list is going to be the Orbi AC3000 from Netgear, now as the name suggest, you should already be aware of the fact that this is in fact a tri-band router. A tri band is basically a router that comes with two bands that are running on the 5 gigahertz frequency, and one band that is running on the 2.4 gigahertz frequency.

With that said, the Netgear Orbi is certainly not a wireless router that comes for cheap as it is expensive, loaded with features, and quite simply, one of the best looking routers in the market. Now bear in mind that this looks a lot different when compared to the Nighthawk routers by the same company, however, we are not here looking at the looks.

There is no point in denying that this is made to perform, and that’s exactly what it does, giving us one of the best performances when it comes to top of the line performers, to be fairly honest, there are a lot of good things about this; from the top of the line build quality.

However, that’s not all, the netgear orbi is also really, really minimalistic, so it means that it doesn’t matter where you put it, the router will blend in. Moving on, the performance side of things remained consistent with the wireless router being super-fast in almost all the tests.

In order to properly test the router, we used it with different networks just to get the best idea on how it performs, and unsurprisingly, it performed well, even when all the networks available were under a lot of load.

Another great thing about the Orbi was the WiFi coverage, as per Netgear, buying 2 routers will let you cover up to 4,000 square feet, so by that equation, a single Netgear Orbi should be able to cover 2,000 square feet. Do keep in mind that the numbers are always within the margin of error, and despite that, we didn’t have any performance issues.

However, with all good things aside, we did run into some concerns with the router; the first one being the price, the Netgear Orbi is quite expensive, especially if you are someone who is planning to use it in your room, and nothing more than that.

In addition to the price, it’s a sad thing that Netgear didn’t bring out a dedicated router app for mobile phones that would allow you to setup the router from your phone.

With all said and done, there is no denying that the Netgear Orbi is a great router, it performs brilliantly, manages to stand out of the crowd, is easy to setup, and provides the user with a massive Wi-Fi coverage.
Pros
  • Incredibly fast speeds with large coverage of 2,000 square feet.
  • Small, stylish, and minimalistic form factor.
  • Easy to install and setup.
Cons
  • Expensive for the budget oriented users.
  • Doesn’t have a dedicated mobile app.

TP-Link Talon AD7200 Wi-Fi Tri-Band Router

TP-Link AD7200 Wifi Tri-Band Gigabit Router (Talon AD7200)

$349.99

We are now looking at the TP-Link Talon, or the AD7200, to be fairly honest, routers have come to a point where it is quite hard to make router of evolution. Yes, a company can introduce the fastest wireless router in the market with triple bands, and the fastest wireless standards, but to be fairly honest, it will only sell if the buyer wants it.

However, that doesn’t stop the companies from flooding the market from upgraded products every now and then. The TP-Link Talon shares a similar story today, and is one of the fastest wireless routers available in the market, it offers the latest and the greatest AD7200 standard, something that hasn’t properly gone mainstream, and while you may think what’s the point of paying this much money for a router, ask a router enthusiast the same question.

Now the thing with the extremely fast 802.11ad WiFi standard is that currently, there are no device available in the market that can make use of this WIFi standard, but that doesn’t mean that won’t work with any of the available devices, because it does, and while doing so, does a great job at that too.

Despite not having any proper way to measure the speed of TP-Link AD7200 ( Talon ) we still put it through paces to see just how good this is, and to be fairly honest, we only have to say is just too fast, and may too fast for its own good. It’s a shame to not have a device that can deliver this much speed, otherwise, it would have been quite possibly the best wifi router in the world, and in case you are wondering why it’s not the best wireless router available, that’s because it’s expensive, and even for the router enthusiasts, it’s an overkill.

However, that is something that actually comes down to the preference. The build quality of the TP-Link is as solid as things get; TP-Link AD7200 comes donned in black, and looks classy, and stylish at the same time. You have a total 8 highly powerful antennas that are enough to give you a coverage of 1,000 square feet, and even more. Overall, this router is the best of both worlds, however, it’s a shame that we will have to wait a bit more to see the full potential of this router.

One small thing though, if you’re wondering about the performance on that 6 gigahertz band, you should know it doesn’t offer much range, and manages to top up at 20 – 25 feet only. If you’re okay with that, it’s a pretty solid option.
Pros
  • Super-fast transfer rates.
  • Solid build quality.
  • Amazing looks.
  • Long Wi-Fi coverage when operating on 2.4 and 5 gigahertz bands.
Cons
  • Not enough uses at the present time.
  • Short Wi-Fi range of only 25 feet at 6 gigahertz.

This is the last router by Asus on our list, and perhaps one of the best ones the company has released, it’s a tri-band router and features the same amazing feature such as AiProtection and a bunch of other top of the line features that will help you get the most out of your money.

The good thing about this router is simply the fact that it’s super-fast, and while it is certainly pricey for some, the features are enough for both the beginners as well as the networking enthusiasts who are all prepared to spend 100s of dollars on something such as a flagship router.

Like always, firstly, we are going to take a look at just how good the router is; the build quality is quite frankly one of the best we have seen, Asus RT-AC3200 is built using sturdy plastic that gives a stunning matte finish and complements the angular design of this router. Obviously, not everything is about the looks, and if you are someone who is wondering just how good the performance is, we even have some really, really good news about you.

The performance side of things remained really positive, as you already know, this is tri-band router and we expected it to perform well, and thankfully, it did. The router has one of the most powerful hardware in the market, and a list of amazing features that makes sure that Asus RT-AC3200 has earned a spot in our list. Ni addition to the hardware superiority, another good thing about this router is the fact that it’s packed with features on the software side of things as well.

For starters, for people who are considered that some sort of malware may enter their networks, don’t worry, the good thing is that it won’t happen mainly because this router protects against that. When testing the WiFi range, we didn’t face any issue on all the present bands, obviously, the 2.4 gigahertz had more range, but that’s common.

Last but not the least, if you have an external hard drive, you can actually turn this router into a very powerful NAS device at the same time as well.

All good things aside, there isn’t much bad about this router. Sure, it’s expensive, bulky, has a long feature list, a lot of people won’t even use, but under all that, there is a really, really powerful hardware that is undoubtedly the best when it comes to performing.
Pros
  • Really, really powerful hardware.
  • Long WiFi range on both bands.
  • Suiper-fast internet speeds.
  • Top of the line design and build quality.
  • Serves really well when coupled with an external hard drive.
  • Equipped with latest WiFi standards.
Cons
  • Not enough uses at the present time.

Before we begin, you need to know that this is going to be the last Netgear router on our list, after this, we will be bringing in wireless routers from other companies who have had great success in the networking industry too.

However, right now, the star of the show is the Netgear AC5300 Nighthawk X8, for those who don’t know, is almost a year old, however, don’t let the age fool you as it happens to the first router that came with the crazy fast AC5300 standards.

In case you are completely unaware, this router comes equipped with all the latest, and greatest Internet standards, and as a lot of people have said it before, despite it’s crazy fast networking speeds, there is no internet connection that can actually fully utilize, that’s the power of this beast. Another thing you should know that this is the first wireless router that first came up with the crazy fast AC5300 speed, and although we have even faster routers in the market, this one will always be the king.

Without wasting anymore time, let’s take a look at the performance side of things; well, for starters, you get all the modern connectivity options, and considering how this is a tri-band router, you get 3 bands that perform on ridiculous speeds. The wireless side of things is amazing as well, and there is absolutely no lag or whatsoever; in simpler words, it is as consistent as things go.

With that out of the way, it’s a common understanding why a lot of people don’t use wired connections, but if you want, you can utilize the incredibly impressive speeds on that as well. With that said, the router is armed to teeth with powerful hardware that is well fitted for most users who are always on the lookout for the best of both worlds, however, do keep in mind that this router is aimed towards the enthusiasts, and if you are a beginner, or don’t have much high end work, you will do pretty well even with the simple router. As for the coverage, it easily goes beyond 1,000 square feet.

The bad things about this router mostly revolves around the steep learning curve. Don’t get us wrong, this is a wonderful wireless router, however, for beginners, this can make things really, really difficult, and well, it’s somewhat expensive too. If you can ignore that, you will get a pretty powerful that is able to handle pretty much all the extensive tasks.
Pros
  • Incredibly fast speeds on all the bands and connection types.
  • Solid build quality.
  • Armed to teeth with latest and greatest networking features.
  • Comes with incredibly powerful hardware.
  • Manages to provide coverage ranging up to 1,000 square feet.
Cons
  • Very expensive.
  • Is really difficult to set up for beginners.
  • Quite bulky.

We are now officialy taking the things up a notch by introducing the Linksys AC5400 tri band, and as the name tells you, it is in fact a tri band router, and we have seen a lot of those in the market already.

Now in terms of the router, you’re not seeing a lot of changes, and considering how this one belongs to the Max Stream series of routers, the design remains somewhat the same, however, this time, the router comes with an exceptionally large body, that actually happens to be quite bulky at the same time.

Thought not all his lost, the Max Stream EA9500 is still a very good wireless router that is packed with features, and offers the latest and greatest internet standards that are going to be used by a lot of people, and will be completely overkill for some.

Linksys AC5400 is in fact a tri-band router, and the performance on all 3 bands remains exceptional. Now the good thing is that the WiFi range is also pretty solid, and while the 5 gigahertz bands share the same fate, there’s no denying that the 2.4 gigahertz band offers one of the widest, and best WiFi range one could ask for.

Linksys Ac5400 also has an amazing parental control system that lets you block out the HTTPS websites if you want.

Though the router is a really solid performer, we do have some concerns, for starters, the wifi router is actually quite expensive to begin with, but that shouldn’t be a problem for people who are willing to spend that much money. Secondly, the router is quite bulky, and that is something we have talked about time and again with other router series such as the Nighthawk by Netgear. Still, nothing serious, as this router is still pretty good as it is.
Pros
  • Decent performance through and through.
  • Great WiFi range on the 2.4 band, and max range at the 5 gigahertz band.
  • Powerful hardware under the hood.
  • Parental control is a welcomed addition.
Cons
  • The router is quite bulky.
  • Expensive for the budget oriented people.

Needless to say, TP Link is one of the company that has established itself as one of the most successful companies when it comes to wifi routers as well as other internet related products; the good thing about TP-Link is that there’s plenty to choose for everyone, this means that even if you have a low budget, you can actually get a great TP-Link wireless router, and call it a day, and for those who are willing to go head first into the buying game.

TP-Link has got you covered and you can actually buy their top of the line wifi routers like the Talon, or the AD7200. With all those user types aside, what happens to be people who don’t want to spend a lot, and still want a router that gets the job done by providing top of the line specs packaged into a fairly priced product.

TP-Link Archer C5400, and in all honesty, it is, if not the best, one of the best wifi routers we have had the chance to test. In case you are wondering what makes it so good, well, without wasting anymore time, let’s take a look at it.

As the name suggests, the TP-Link Archer C5400 offers an AC5400 standard, and while it’s not the fastest wireless router available in the market, it certainly is a lot faster than your usual router; design on the router is very, very attractive, and although it doesn’t seem that you can remove the antennas, but if you ever need to carry somewhere, you can easily put it in backup by folding the antennas in a way that they completely hide within the router, and that is certainly a huge plus point for people who move a lot.

With that said, the performance side of things look good too, Tp-Link AC5400 is obviously a tri-band wireless router, and the good thing is that the performance remains the same on all 3 bands, however, do keep in mind that the WiFi range on the 5 gigahertz band is comparatively less, but that’s something very, very common and not surprising at all. Overall, the TP-Link Archer C5400 is a pretty solid wireless router that offers a lot without asking too much in return.
Pros
  • Excellent innovative design that’s compact and practical.
  • Excellent speeds on all the bands.
  • Top-notch WiFi range on the 2.4 gigahertz band, and even good for the shorter 5 gigahertz band.
  • One of the best management systems we have seen.
Cons
  • Somewhat pricey for a certain group of users.

The wireless router, or should we say routers we are looking at are known as Eero Home Wi-Fi System, these routers come in 3, and in case you are wondering why Eero took such an approach, it’s mainly because buying 3 wireless router allows you to create a Wi-Fi system that makes sure that the performance delivered is even.

This is a rather clever approach that we haven’t seen a lot, but whether or not Eero nailed it, we are yet to find out. The devices are small enough to fit inside your backpack, and even your pockets, and you should know that they look really, really good.

You won’t find any large, and awkward external antennas, considering how everything is handled well internally. The Eero Home Wi-Fi system is rather easy to install, and creating a system out of them isn’t all that difficult.

All you need is some basic networking knowledge, and you’re good to go. Now considering how you’re working with 3 wireless routers, performance or coverage shouldn’t really be an issue. You can place the router away from each other on equal distance, and that will ensure that you have maximum coverage.

Even if you have 3 rooms that require the most amount of coverage, you can use those rooms, and provide coverage to the entire place.

Overall, the Eero Home Wi-Fi system is a well put idea, and works rather well. It’s certainly a bold one, and while we were a bit skeptical in the beginning, the end result was rather pleasing.

The only downsides were that the whole router wasn’t fast enough when it came to handling large bandwidths, and the whole system didn’t have a lot of advanced features.

Pros
  • Clever approach to maximize coverage.
  • Decent performance.
  • Easy to setup.
  • Small form factor.
Cons
  • Limited feature set.

The good thing about the WRT series of routers is that they are always open source, and that’s really a good thing because the community can make some really good contributions, with that out of the way, right now, we are looking at the WRT3200ACM, and for those who are wondering, it is, in fact, a dual band wifi router.

However, thanks to the AC3200 standard, it happens to be one of the fastest dual band wireless routers available in the market, and that is according to several reviewers who have tested this router.

So, starting off with our usual tests, it is safe to say that the router is super-fast, and that’s certainly a good thing, while it doesn’t offer you all the standards that are modern and still not accessible by the users, it does provide you the standards that can be used in order to get the most out of this router.

The performance side of things is bright, and colourful thanks to the router being super-fast in both close range, and long range tests, and retaining a stable connection, something a lot of people actually look for. So, it doesn’t matter if you’re using Linksys WRT AC3200 while sitting in your room, or if you’re using this router while sitting in someone else’s room, it’s always going to perform like a solid beast.

Linksys WRT AC3200 sports the same retro design that we have found in all the other WRT series router, and it’s simple to say that we love it, the build quality also earns massive points from us mainly because it’s solid. Another great thing about the router is the software, the smart WiFi app from Linksys is quite simply one of the best we have seen in quite some time.

There isn’t a lot of issues here, apart from a small pressing matter, we felt that this wireless router is aimed towards the wireless users as the inclusion of wired ports isn’t all that good. But still, having the ports at the back is better than not having them in the first place.
Pros
  • Satisfying performance on both bands.
  • Great WiFi range on both bands.
  • Great retro design with solid build quality.
  • Excellent software.
Cons
  • A bit too expensive for the average user.

We are now taking a notch above the Nighthawk X4, and going to take a look at the Nighthawk X6 from none other than Netgear. Now before we begin, there are some things you should know about, you probably have noticed that there is a pattern going on in which we are only reviewing wireless routers from Netgear, and in case you are worried or concerned that we won’t be writing about any other router, then that’s wrong.

We have a lot of other companies as well, and once we are done with the routers from Netgear, we will move our focus towards those routers. With that said, the good thing about Nighthawk X6 is that it’s one of the best tri-band wireless routers available in the market, and pretty much like every single Nighthawk wireless router, this one also offers stealthy looks, and a stylish, yet minimalistic design.

However, we all know that design isn’t the biggest concern when you are looking at a router because performance is the main part. So, let’s take a look at the performance side of things.

In case you are wondering whether or not the Nighthawk X6 is a good performer, then you should just be aware that the router is one of the best performers we have seen in the market, and even though it’s a bit expensive, it actually is really, really good, and well built.

It has really powerful hardware under the hood, and in addition to that, the WiFi range along with the transfer speeds are some of the best we have seen, and in case you want to couple this with an external hard drive, you can go ahead and do that, and in return, you will be given one of the finest routers that can double up as an even more impressive router. Needless to say, it is as impressive as things get.

However, not all things are good and bright as we would like the to be. For starters, there are some obvious issues with the router too; in many cases, it was revealed that the router struggles when it comes to performing on a 2.4 gigahertz band, whether that is a firmware issue, or a hardware issue, it’s still not final. But ignore that, and you get that looks great, is powerful as both a wireless router and as an NAS, and is built like a tank.
Pros
  • Fast wireless speeds on all frequencies.
  • Incredible, stealthy, and solid design.
  • Great WiFi range.
  • Powerful hardware.
  • Really good NAS performance.
Cons
  • Can be a bit buggy on 2.4 gigahertz frequency.
  • Expensive for some.

The last router on our list is by D-Link, and it is the D-Link AC3200 Ultra Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router with 6 High Performance Beamforming Antennas (DIR-890L/R).

For those who don’t know, D-Link happens to be one of the most famous internet equipment company, the company has enjoyed a lot of success thanks to their routers that are considered the main attraction, and believe it or not, they are some of the best the internet industry has to offer.

Today’s not a different story either, the D-Link AC3200 Ultra is a tri-band router that is released for the performance enthusiasts who are always looking to squeeze the most amount of juice from their internet, and look for the unprecedented performance they so badly want.

What’s good about this wireless router? Well, without wasting anymore time, let’s find out all the good things about this amazing wifi router.

Just like any other router review, the first thing is going to be the build quality, and in all honesty, it seems like D-Link was looking at a race car when this router was created because that’s exactly what it looks like. Ditching the traditional black or silver, this router took a different route and went for a bright red colour that is surprisingly pleasing to the eyes. Complementing the red colours are 6 extremely long range antennas for that added performance and ridiculously large covering area. The overall router design is just too good, and there’s a lot to write about in all honesty.

However, design isn’t something that will be making a king out of D-Link AC3200 Ultra as the actual thing is all about the performance. So, does this router perform? Well, you’d be surprise. The router is extremely fast thanks to the fact that uses all the latest standards, and thanks to those antennas, the WiFi coverage is quite possibly one of the best we have seen.

D-Link claim s that the antennas are packed with beamforming technology that helps them give out some serious coverage gains. Another really good thing about this router is that when the time to set this one up comes, the whole process is as smooth as things get, and you’d enjoy working with this router; the web interface is limited, sure, but that doesn’t stop this router from becoming a top pick.

There are some downsides to this router as well, for starters, it costs quite a lot for a lot of people, and if that’s not a problem, then you should know that although the settings are really, really easy to take care of, the issue is the options are limited, and in some certain conditions, we noticed that the WiFi range started acting up. Overall that, and you’ve got yourself a router that is a perfect thing for people who want the best of both worlds.
Pros
  • Brilliant design and build quality.
  • Super-fast internet speeds.
  • Long range WiFi.
  • Simple, easy to use and navigate setup.
Cons
  • WiFi range can be a bit buggy.

We are going to step things up a bit, and take a look at somewhat more powerful router by TP Link known as the TP-Link AC3200 wireless router, now as the name suggest, this is in fact a tri-band router, and to make things easier for the readers, and the potential buyers, you can also look for it as Archer C3200. With that said, TP-Link did some changes, and brought in some new looks for, and that is why the Archer C3200 comes donned in black.

However, looks never made anyone a winner, and that is why we are going to put through all the paces that we have put the other wireless routers through. The testing methodology usually involves the router hosting a number of devices, and then looking at how stably it can handle all of them. So, without further ado, let’s see what’s good.

Like we stated earlier, TP-Link Archer C3200 is a tri-band router, during our testing, we realized that as always, the 5 gigahertz band manages to take the lead, and while that may be the case with every other router, it’s still good to see, that the 2.4 gigahertz band performs relatively fast, and remains stable, however, we would like to point out a few things; although good, and speedy, it is not as fast as some of the other available routers, but that’s okay, and shouldn’t create much of a problem.

The range remains one of the best in class thanks to the six antennas that perform really well, and manage to spread the range evenly. You also get a really good build quality that will probably remind you of the Nighthawk series by Netgear, and while the design is a bit similar, there is no way we can say that TP-Link copied it off. Another good thing about the Archer C3200 is that the management features of this router are really, really good, and respectable to begin with.

Overall, the TP-Link Archer C3200 is a very capable wireless router that does most of the work in a really, really good manner of way. Yes, you do suffer some issues such as a relatively slow 2.4 gigahertz performance, and the price issues, but other than that, it’s a full package and one that you shouldn’t miss at all.
Pros
  • Fast, satisfying performance on both 5 gigahertz, and 2.4 gigahertz band.
  • Amazing management features.
  • Great build quality.
  • Good Wi-Fi range, speed, and stability thanks to the 6 antennas.
Cons
  • Not the best in class with 2.4 gigahertz speed.
  • Relatively expensive.

For those who don’t know, gaming routers are a thing, and that’s because most hardcore gamers demand the best gaming experience and that’s what this router aims to provide, we are talking about the Nighthawk X4s Ultimate Gaming router, and as the name suggest, this router is actually built for gamers; considering how online gamers want the most stable connection when they are playing online, Netgear has made this Nighthawk X4S just for them.

Now for starters, this router has quite a mouthful of a name, but you can look for the R7800 and you’ll know what you are looking for. For those who don’t know, Netgear’s history with wireless routers, as well as other networking products is actually very, very popular, and while you may think that the company has made the market saturated, it’s not the case, it’s mainly because Netgear has been around for ages, and for good.

Now, the Nighthawk wireless routers are normally very, very large in size, and bulky, luckily, that’s not the case with the Nighthawk X4s as it happens to be one of the smallest routers in the Nighthawk series, and that is actually a good thing. The thing is, although larger routers look quite intimidating for the starters, they are not good enough for people who don’t have a lot of desk space to begin with, and would require a dedicated shelf for the router to sit in.

With that said, on the performance side of things, the router managed to perform pretty well in almost all the tests we put it through, the connection was consistent, the speeds were top notch, and we didn’t notice any performance hiccups either, even when the network was being fully utilized.

If you move on to the Wi-Fi speed and range, you’d be pleased that both of the factors were unsurprisingly amazing, and brilliant, to put the wireless router through the paces, we tested it with 2 computers on different floors in order to see any range or latency issues, and luckily, there weren’t any, last but not the least the QoS features (quality of service) features were really good as well, making all rounding performer, and certainly package worth looking at.

Though much like other routers, and products, there were some questionable features such as the lack of customization, as well as a rather bloated menu, but those things are completely subjective, and aren’t really deal breaking. The rest of the router is pretty solid.
Pros
  • Incredibly fast speeds.
  • Long Wi-Fi range.
  • Amazing features including the QoS specific features.
  • Great design, and form factor.
  • Powerful hardware.
Cons
  • A bit more expensive than the competition.
  • Might feel gimmicky to some.

TP-Link has enjoyed quite a history in the networking industry, and t that’s a good thing because they have provided us with some of the best wireless routers in the market, as for right now, we are looking at the TP-Link AC3150, one of the best offerings from the company. But is it any good as some of the others? Let’s find out.

The router follows a rather traditional design language, with glossy black/matte finish, we can’t really say we’re a fan of the gloss because it invites a lot of fingerprints, and dust accumulation is always going to be taxing issue, but some people prefer it that way.

On the back, you’ll find 4 antennas, and that brings us to the performance side of things; the TP-Link AC3150 is actually one of the best wireless routers when the performance side of things is looked at, it provides fast performance through and through.

Another really good thing about the router is that the overall installation and setting up method is super easy and straightforward, and that is certainly a plus point in our books because a lot of people aren’t as adept in installing routers as we’d expect.

Last but not the least, you are also getting a pretty consistent performance across the bands, and that is something a lot of people are aiming for when it comes to buying a router. Our only issue with this router is that while the performance on 2.4 gigahertz is good, it could have been a lot better.

Overall, the TP-Link AC3150 is a pretty amazing wireless router with somewhat average performance on the 2.4 gigahertz band, if you have no issues with that, you’re good to go.
Pros
  • Amazing performance.
  • Solid, simple design.
  • Easy to install.
Cons
  • Performance on 2.4 gigahertz band is average.

What we have here today is considered to be a pinnacle in the router industry, for those who don’t know, Asus is one of the best companies to create top of the line routers, and not just routers, pretty much everything that is coming out of their factories is labeled with perfection.

The router at hand today is the Asus RT-AC87U, and yes, it is a dual band wifi router that offers slightly slower standards than the much revered AC3200, and at a lower price.

Despite the price being lower, and the standards being slower, there’s no denying that this is in fact one of the best wireless routers in the market at this point.

Yes, it was released almost 2 years ago, and despite that, it has managed to hold up quite nicely thanks to the extremely fast standards. Both bands performed really well in our tests, and even the WiFi range was surprisingly good, especially on the 5 gigahertz band, to be honest, at this point, it’s almost as if Asus knows how to do justice to everything they make.

The build quality is as good as you’d expect, however, it’s not as angular or aggressive as compared to the AC-88U, but still, manages to look really, really good. The antennas can also be removed for your personal convenience and replaced with some other antennas for even better range.

The router is also equipped with enough security features to stop any sort of malware, or other malicious content making its way through the network.

All in all, Asus RT-AC87U is a really good wireless router that has a lot of tricks under the sleeve, it’s not the fastest in the market, but given the price you’re paying for it, the router is certainly one of the best, and in order to sweeten up the things, Asus even added a USB 3.0 port in the front just so you can attach a compatible hard drive with it.
Pros
  • Superfast speed on both bands.
  • Great WiFi range that can be accessed anywhere in large homes.
  • Top of the line build quality and design.
  • The same trustworthy web interface.
  • Ability to attach a hard drive.
  • Great security features.
Cons
  • Price may be a concern to some people.

Max Stream series by Linksys is pretty famous, it’s built to provide top of the line performance, and great looks, and this is what the Max Stream EA8500 is all about, and in case you are wondering, Linksys AC2600 is dual band, and offers the same great looks that have become a staple for the Max Stream series of routers by Linksys.

So, without wasting anymore time, let’s dig deeper into the router.

For starters, this is a slightly big router than the rest of the Max Stream wireless routers but still smaller than the one we have reviewed earlier, it offers the same amount of amazing features, and can double up as a very, very fast NAS too.

The performance on the 5 gigahertz is rock solid, even though the range isn’t as good as we would want it to be, there’s no denying that the performance is still fast.

However, things are different at the 2.4 gigahertz side, the WiFi range is as good as it gets, and we didn’t have any issue finding full signals, but then again, the slower speed came in our way, but it was nothing deal breaking.

There is nothing to hate about this router to be honest, it gives you amazing performance across the board, and if you live or work in a place where there are a lot of devices connected to one device, this just maybe the device you want. Yes, there are some issues, but nothing is too serious to make you change your mind, and the router gives a rock solid performance.
Pros
  • Top notch performance at 5 gigahertz band.
  • Solid range on 2.4 gigahertz band.
  • Great build quality.
  • Super-fast storage capabilities.
Cons
  • 4 gigahertz isn’t as fast as the competitions.

Moving on from the Max Stream series, we are now going to take a look at the WRT series, and Linksys AC1900 in hand is the Linksys WRT1900ACS, the good thing about this router is that it’s completely open source, and that is the good thing about this router.

Now in terms of looks, the WRT1900ACS is a lot different than the other Linksys router we have reviewed, and that is good thing because the black on grey was getting kind of old. As for this router, you’re getting this in blue and black, and in all honesty, the color combination looks really good and the router comes with a retro looking design.

However, we are not here for the design of the router, if you are wondering about the performance, you should know that the router comes with 2 bands, and both bands are good enough to hold their own when it comes to the performance.

The 5 gigahertz band is super-fast, but has a lower range, whereas the 2.4 gigahertz band is comparatively slow, but has a longer range, long enough to give full signals in the entire office building.

Now another good thing about this router is that you can couple it with an external hard drive and it will become a really, really fast Network Attached Storage.

As you can tell by now that we are really, really impressed by the router, and haven’t really found any deal breaking issues in it. That’s mainly because there aren’t any deal breaking issues to begin with, yes, the router is expensive, but with the amount of features it provides, you’re not really losing a lot of things and gaining a lot more.

Overall, the Linksys WRT1900ACS is a really, really powerful router with a cool looking retro design, and top of the line performance on both the bands, on top of everything the wifi router is also open source, making it all the more of a treat to use it.
Pros
  • Super-fast performance on both bands.
  • Impressive WiFi range enough to provide coverage to the entire building.
  • Solid build quality complements the cool retro design.
  • Excellent NAS performance when coupled with an external hard drive.
Cons
  • Expensive for basic use

Netgear’s Nighthawk series has become a staple for those who are looking to buy top notch wireless router that look good, and perform even better, and this time, it’s the much revered AC1900 dual band Wi-Fi router.

Now, for those who don’t know, a dual band router is basically with one 2.4 GHz band, and one 5 GHz band. Now in case you didn’t know, the Nighthawk series is considered to be one of the highly revered series by Netgear, and the case today with the Nighthawk AC1900 remains pretty much the same.

Much like the other Nighthawk routers, this one also has a rather large foot print, so make sure you have enough space, or at least a dedicated shelf before buying the router. It comes armed to teeth, it has all the latest standards that are required by the networking enthusiasts.

The build quality is pretty solid with the Nighthawk AC1900, and that is certainly a plus point. However, you need to be fully aware of the fact the much like all the other Nighthawk routers, this one also has quite a huge footprint, it means that you’d either need to clear up your desk space, or create a dedicated shelf just for the router.

However, that doesn’t mean that is not good enough; the performance was extremely solid, and satisfying throughout the whole course, but we do have some concerns – for starters, the 5 gigahertz band works really, really well, however, the same cannot be said for the 2.4 gigahertz band as it is comparatively slow.

With that out of the way, we can assure you that the Nighthawk AC1900 is fast, again, the range test was performed in the same building all the routers were tested, and it’s safe to say that easily covers the entire building. The looks are great as always, and the wireless router is easy to setup.

Overall, there are no complaints that would break the deal for us, but if we could, we would have preferred the router to have a smaller, less bulky footprint than it already does, but considering how the wireless router is already good looking enough, we can let it slide.
Pros
  • Incredibly fast speed on both wireless, and wired.
  • Top of the line build quality, and stylish looks.
  • Very, very easy to install and setup.
  • Intuitive interface with a lot of features.
  • WiFi range remained consistent in the 1,000 square feet office.
Cons
  • Router is quite expensive.
  • For just a wireless router, it comes with an oddly large footprint.

The good thing about Asus is that they have plenty for everyone, and this is not just the case with their highest selling components like their motherboards, same is the case with their routers, as you may, or may not know, the previous routers that we have replaced were targeted at high end users, and mostly carried a hefty price tag.

However, the company also has a pretty solid dual band router known as the Asus RT-AC66U. This one is still a dual band router with AC1750, and while on paper, it may look slower than the elder siblings, it’s still really good. Let’s find out why.

Now normally, when the Asus sent out the review samples, the router was quickly dubbed as the fastest dual band wireless router in the market, and while it’s been quite some time, the router still manages to be found in the carts of a lot of people. That’s mainly because Asus RT-AC66U is really, really fast on both the bands, and the WiFi range remains as long as it needs to be.

We can’t stress enough about just how good the router is when it comes to the online setup, and to be fairly honest, Asus constantly keeps on delivering goods even when we think we have seen it all.

The web interface is simple, easy to understand, all the while being as intuitive as possible. So, whether you’re setting up the router, or just looking at all the options, you’re going to find quite a lot of them.

Considering the price you’re paying for the router, we can’t really complain about Asus RT-AC66U, it has everything one would want from a budget oriented router; fast speeds, top of the notch build quality, and great price to performance ratio.
Pros
  • Excellent price to performance ratio.
  • Great speeds on both the bands.
  • Top notch build quality.
  • Great design.
  • Intuitive, and easy to use web interface.
Cons
  • None

The good thing about Linksys is that much like TP-Link and Netgear, it has a router for everyone, and while the AC1750 was already a great router to begin with, TP-Link took things further and released an even better AC1900 Dual Band wifi router, now this router is not much of an upgrade from the original AC1750, but for those who are actually looking to buy a new router, this is a really great option that offers the same amazing qualities as the predecessor, and slightly higher speeds.

Now when you are looking at wireless routers like this one here, you’re normally looking at all performance and not a lot of looks, this one’s a different case altogether, and while it still manages to be one fast wireless router, it still manages to look great.

Now in terms of looks, it looks exactly as the AC1750, which wasn’t a bad looking either, and in all honesty, not a lot has changed in term of looks, and you still get the same grey/black design.

The changes that were made were under the hood, the WiFi performance has improved drastically thanks to faster bands, the WiFi range is also one of the best we have seen, Linksys Ac1900 is lightweight, and can easily be mounted on the wall.

However, all good things aside, there are some caveats to the otherwise amazing wireless router, for starters, it does not happen to be the fastest wireless router that uses the AC1900 standard out in the market, but keep that in mind that the speed doesn’t stop it from becoming one of the most sought out routers, because it’s just that good.

Overall, the AC1900 is a pretty solid wireless router, and one of the best bang for the bucks. It does have some shortcomings, but they don’t let the router face any major deal breaking issue.
Pros
  • The best bang for the buck.
  • Fast wireless and wired performance.
  • Long WiFi range on the 2.4 band, and respectable enough range on the 5 gigahertz band.
  • Lightweight, and compact.
Cons
  • Router isn’t as fast as the competition.

We are closing in on the Netgear wireless routers, and have something for those who don’t want to spend a ridiculous amount of money just in order to have a decent amount of performance. In comes the Nighthawk R6700.

The router is comparatively more affordable as compared to some other Netgear offerings in our list, and that is certainly a good thing. However, just because it’s cheaper, doesn’t mean it compromises on the quality of performance, or the construction.

Netgear made sure you don’t need to sacrifice any of those things, and still managed to deliver a package that looks interesting, costs a fraction of what other high end router costs, and gives you a pretty amazing performance as the router, as well, and in case you are wondering, this is in fact a dual band router.

Now a common misconception around the market is that this wireless router actually doubles up as a NAS, and as much as we would have liked it, it simply doesn’t offer NASA. Still, nothing to worry as it is one capable router.

For starters, the performance on both 5 gigahertz, and the 2.4 gigahertz band is really, really good. We’re not talking about just acceptable, we are talking about super-fast internet whether you are connected through your laptop via the WiFi, or through the Ethernet cable, and that is certainly a good thing.

In addition to that, the router is quite bulky, and it maybe a downside to some, but overall, it’s a pretty solid package. Luckily, the antennas can be removed, so in case you want to add long-range antennas, that can be possible easily; but before you do, keep in mind that provided a solid coverage throughout the entire office with multiple devices connected.

All in all, the router managed to perform really well, and defied all the expectations we had. It’s the perfect blend of price to performance ratio, offers a solid build quality, top of the line speed, and all the latest and greatest internet standards that are normally required by the advanced users.
Pros
  • Fast, reliable, and stable internet speeds.
  • Amazing build quality, paying an homage to the legendary Nighthawk design.
  • Removable antennas.
  • Solid WiFi coverage even in big homes.
Cons
  • The router is quite bulky.
  • Price maybe an issue.

We are now looking at the TP-Link Archer C9, a step up from the C7, and again, a dual band router that is aimed at the budget oriented users, sure, it’s still a dual band router, but to be fairly honest, most people don’t even need a tri-band router.

However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a market for those routers because there is, and it is pretty saturated. Anyway, we are not here to talk about tri-band wireless routers are we; the star of this show is the TP-Link Archer C9, and why is it such a good router.

Speaking of the performance and features, you should know that while the feature side of thing doesn’t look as packed as some would want, it’s generally a really good wireless router in terms of performance; in short, TP-Link has successfully nailed a great product.

Tp-Link AC1900 comes with all the bells and whistles one would expect from a budget oriented router with some advanced options as well, for instance, you get 4 ethernet ports, a USB 2.0 and a USB 3.0 port as well, keep in mind that these parts are not there in order to turn this router into a NAS, but they are there in order to make sure that people who want to use this for file sharing or features such as printing, can actually utilize these ports.

Now the good thing is that despite the affordable price tag you’re paying, you’re still getting the feature set that is really, really well respected, and in addition to that, you’re getting solid stability, something that we can personally vouch for thanks to all the tests that we have done.

The speeds on both bands remained pretty consistent with the 5 gigahertz band taking the lead, and the 2.4 gigahertz band performing relatively well. Other good things involve top of the line Wi-Fi range, and probably one of the easiest installation and setting up process we have come across. Massive respect to TP-Link there.

There are some concerns about the router though; the router can’t be mounted, and has to stand vertically, and the white colour maybe questionable to some considering how prone to dust the colour is. If you can look over these small, subjective caveats, then you’ve got yourself a pretty amazing that can handle pretty much everything you throw at it.
Pros
  • Great price to performance ratio.
  • Brilliant speeds that remain consistent and stable even under load.
  • Solid construction.
  • USB functionality.
  • Great, long Wi-Fi range.
Cons
  • Not any features to please the advance users.

Moving on to another brilliant company that is responsible for creating some of the finest internet products in the market, and that does include wireless routers. We are talking about no one other than Linksys, and the router in concern is the Linksys AC1750 Max Stream EA7300 wifi router.

Now as the name suggests, this is in fact a dual band router, and if you’re wondering if it’s good enough or not, we’ll start by saying that Linksys AC1750 has won several accolades including the one that called it the fastest dual band router in the market.

Considering how it is in fact a dual band wireless router, it’s there to get the jobs done, rather than buying a router that is equipped with all the latest and greatest technologies, and standards, sometimes, it’s a lot better to buy something that is simple, and get the job done.

The Linksys AC1750 does exactly that, and looks good while doing so. Although the router looks and feels solid, it would have been a good thing if it had used a complete matte finish instead of the glossy part in the middle that can easily get smudged.

The speeds are good enough on both bands, and while the WiFi range on the 2.4 GHz band stays as good as it is, there’s a bit of suffering on the 5 gigahertz band but that’s mainly because they normally have shorter coverage anyway.

Overall, the router does a great job at giving consistent performance and a stable internet connection, sure, you’re not going to break any speed barriers, but at the price you’re paying, things can’t get better than this.
Pros
  • Delivers a great price to performance ratio.
  • Affordable for a lot of people.
  • Solid build quality, and a classy design.
  • Great WiFi range keeping the price in mind.
Cons
  • Glossy finiosh in the middle doesn’t make a lot of sense

The good thing about Netgear is that they have created routers for almost all the budget lines, and the AC1750 is exactly what a budget oriented user would want, however, in case you are under the false impression that this wireless router may not be enough for you, then you should know that it isn’t the case.

The Netgear AC1750, despite not belonging to any specific series is very, very popular among most people who don’t want to spend a lot of money. It comes with an 800 megahertz processor, that is there to handle all the tasks, and while you may think it’s not enough, judging by the standard, it’s pretty good. The good thing about this router is that it can also double up as a NAS (Network Attached Storage) thanks to the onboard capabilities.

Netgear AC1750 comes in an attractive, glossy black finish that is very prone to fingerprints, but the good thing is that the router isn’t as large and bulky as some of the other routers we have seen in the market, with that said, in case you are thinking about the technical side of things, then you should be made aware that this is in fact a dual band like some of the others we have seen on the list, and many more to come.

Dual band routers are basically the wireless routers with one 2.4 gigahertz band, and one 5.0 gigahertz band, needless to say, the performance on both bands remained consistent with the 5 gigahertz band taking the lead, something that is pretty obvious to begin with.

While the router is certainly not the fastest in the price group, it certainly is a worthy purchase for those who are loyal to Netgear considering how they have been making some of the best wireless routers. The WiFi also has a great range and managed to work without any issue in the office.

All in all, the R6400 is a pretty decent, albeit a bit expensive wireless router; at the given price, you can find something better, however, it comes down to the personal preference, and there Is nothing wrong with it. The NAS performance is good, gives a decent performance on both bands, and it looks good, that is certainly something worth writing home about.
Pros
  • Fast speeds on both 5.0 and 2.4 gigahertz bands.
  • Excellent build quality.
  • Low profile.
  • Hassle free installation and setup.
  • Remarkable NAS speeds.
  • Great WiFi range throughout the entire building, thanks to the external antennas.
Cons
  • A bit more expensive than the competition side of things.

As you can tell, we have finally moved on from reviewing the Netgear routers, and now it’s time to take a look at another impressive company known as TP-Link, the company has been around for quite some time, and has amassed quite a lot of popularity mainly because of how their routers provide the best price to performance ratio, and even the looks, as well as the build qualities.

For those who don’t know, many ISPs around the world actually provide these wireless routers to their customers just because how reliable they are. With that out of the way, today, we are going to take a look at the TP-Link Archer C7, and although the official name is quite long, this is the standardized name that is being used around the world.

Now the good thing about this router is the price to performance ratio, honestly, it is one of the best we have seen in the market.

As you can tell, the Archer C7 is a dual band router, and while it may seem like an old standard, believe it or not, it’s more than enough. With that out of the way, the actual good thing, and a redeeming thing is the amazing price to performance ratio it presented to the user. Seriously, the C7 Archer is a beast of a router when you look at the price, and the performance it gives.

The Wi-Fi an Ethernet performance remains consistent regardless of the band that is being utilized, and unlike some other routers, this isn’t ridiculously heavy, and that is something we’re always looking for.

Overall, the TP Link C7 Archer managed to tick all the boxes we use in order to determine what’s good about a wireless router, and what’s not. It was pitted against in a lot of different networking tests, and managed to pass all of them with flying colours.

For those curious about the range, the router comes with 3 external antennas, and 3 internal antennas, and needless to say While it’s not the best looking router with crazy amount of features it’s the router that gets the job done, and does it really, really well.
Pros
  • Aimed at budget oriented users.
  • Has a lot of respectable features.
  • Performs well keeping the price in mind.
  • Isn’t too heavy.
  • A total of 6 antennas result in a great WiFi range.
Cons
  • Lack of advanced features.

We now have something a lot different for the readers, something most of them didn’t even know existed; say hello to the Apple AirPort Express Base Station . Yes, that’s correct, a wireless router that is brought to you by Apple. Now a lot of people started getting weirded out when this was originally released, and while you may think it’s a waste of money, it actually went on and became one of the best wireless routers that are available in the market at the moment. Why is it so good? Well, today, we are going to find exactly that; for starters, the wifi router is built just like you’d expect any Apple router to be built, it uses the same, simplistic design that is found on almost all of the routers they are selling, and while that may be a bad thing for some, it’s actually nice to see the router being minimalistic, and well built. While build quality doesn’t even tell half of the story about the router, it is something worth considering, and that is why we are going to put the router through its paces.

The router received the same treatment as all the other routers in the list, and we ran the similar tests on the Express Base Station as well, results? Surprisingly amazing. Just when you that that Apple’s only good when it comes to making phones, or notebooks, they came up with this; now for starters, this is in fact a dual band router that actually has an Ethernet port, something a lot of routers are not really carrying. The performance side of things was amazing, the performance on both bands remained admirably great, and we didn’t find any sort of latency issues, or inconsistent speeds. When it comes to sheer performance within the hardware limitations, the router performs exceptionally well. Now looking at the size, and the fact that this router doesn’t have any external antennas, we thought that the performance side of things may suffer however, we were wrong as this router gave one of the best WiFi coverage. Another thing Apple did really well is the setting up of this router, in all honesty, it is one of the easiest wifi routers to setup, and believe it or not, it does really, really well at that.

Sadly, as much as the hopes we had with this router, it didn’t have some basic features that we need; it seems to us that in hopes of keeping things simple, Apple ended up simplifying things way too much. What’s not featured in this router? Well, for starters, this router is missing perhaps some of the most basic features such as 450Mbps Wireless-N standard, 802.11ac, or even Gigabit Ethernet, and while some may be unfazed by this, these actually are somethings that people want. Overlook the flaws, and you’ve got yourself a pretty kick ass wireless router that can handle pretty much any task you throw at it.

Pros
  • Simple and attractive build quality.
  • Relatively powerful hardware.
  • Excellent WiFi coverage.
  • Small, and lightweight.
  • Really, really easy to setup.
Cons
  • Lacks the most basic of functions.

Conclusion

There are no 2 ways to look at the fact that the router market is very, very crowed and saturated, and while it is certainly a good thing, at the same time, it poses as an issue for people who are either not very experienced in buying routers, or simply want to have a simple purchase that will help them with their internet experience.

This is the place where lists like this one comes into play, every single route in the list is handpicked in order to make sure that the maximum number of people are satisfied.  In order to make things even easier, we have a dedicated Q&A section below the conclusion that will help people with some of the pressing questions that they might have with the router, and what to pick for what task.

Questions and Answers

Now that we are done with all the routers that you can buy, we are going to do a small Q&A, the purpose behind this is to make sure that all the important questions the readers sometimes have get answered. We are going to be posting a series of most commonly asked questions that were sent in by the readers, and try and answer them in the best possible way. So, without further ado, let’s start looking at all the questions presented to us.

Best Wireless Routers for Gaming 2017

Gaming is something that is easily one of the most sought out activities in the modern day and age, and while some people play games as a hobby or a recreational activity, there are other gamers who prever to call it a passion, and some even have made a profession out of it.

ASUS RT-AC88U | Netgear Nighthawk X8Asus RT-AC5300

Keeping that in mind, it’s pretty simple to say that the best wireless router for gaming is definitely the Netgear Nighthawk X4 Ultimate Gaming Router, and this is not because there is a word gaming in this router, that is mainly because this router is good enough to provide all the functionalities that are normally required by the gamers, and even if you are playing online, you should know that this router won’t be giving you any latency issues.

In addition to that, another good thing about this router is that thanks to the consistent internet speeds it has to offer, the gaming experience, and all the times you have to download large updates from Steam, and other clients won’t be getting disrupted in any possible way. Giving this router the sure spot on our list.

For anyone looking for a top notch router that is to be used in gaming, nothing gets better than the Netgear Nighthawk X4 Ultimate Gaming router.

Best Wireless Routers for Streaming 2017

Streaming is something that has become very, very common over the past couple of years. With YouTube on the rise, and giving the users a chance to stream their own content on the website, as well as watch all the streams that are currently taking place, the requirement for a router that can handle all of that high bandwidth is becoming increasingly high.

Netgear Nighthawk X10TP-Link AD7200 | Asus RT-AC5300

Now for the people who stream their own content on the internet as well as the people who like to watch stream are of two different categories; the first one requires a good upstream of data, and the latte requires a better downstream.

Keeping that in mind, the best router for streaming would definitely be the Netgear Nighthawk X10; the router gives unrivaled build quality, and a record breaking speed in both upstreaming and downstreaming, and for those who are wondering whether or not it will be a good choice for streamers, the answer is a definite yes.

Sure, you’ll be needing powerful hardware to handle this router, but by the end of the day, this one is definitely the best router in the market when it comes to unprecedented streaming performance.

Best Routers for Office Use 2017

Now when it comes to using internet at the office, the most common issue is the network that is usually crowded, and in case you are wondering why that happens, the answer is pretty simple.

Google Wi-Fi systemNETGEAR OrbiEero Home WiFi System

Regardless of the size of the office you are working at or the number of people at your office, the issue comes because all of the people are accessing internet at the same time, and even the fastest internet connections can get choked with all that traffic, and if you have some cheap router, it’ll definitely not hold a candle against all that traffic.

Now keeping that in mind, you need a wireless router that is fast, as well as powerful enough to handle all that traffic. Going back on our list, we have found the TP-Link Talon AD7200 to be the best router for office use, and in case you’re wondering, that’s mainly because this is perhaps one of the fastest routers out in the market, it comes with industry leading speeds, and that’s not all, pretty much everything about this router is top notch; the build quality, the whole process of setting up, the looks, and most importantly, the speed.

If you are working in an office that has a lot of network load to handle, there is nothing really better than the TP-Link Talon AD7200. Sure, it’s expensive, but if you need all that stability and performance without any disconnections, this is what you will have to pay in order to get the best.

Best Wireless Routers with Long Range

Most people usually spend a lot of money on buying WiFi range extenders, and while they can do what they are made for, they are not as good as wireless routers that are available in the market, and there is a very simple reason behind that. With that said, if you are looking for a great wireless router that not only offers you top of the line performance, but also really, really good when it comes to providing the extended range, you’re at the right place.

Google Wi-Fi systemNETGEAR OrbiEero Home WiFi System | Netgear Nighthawk X10TP-Link AD7200 | Asus RT-AC5300

However, you do need to keep in mind that if you need an overall long range wireless router without any advanced performance quirks, you can get any good dual band wireless router that will give you the best possible range on the 2.4 gigahertz band. With that said, let’s see the router.

The pick here is the Netgear AC1750 Smart WiFi Budget Router , now for those looking for a router that is used in large homes and has a large coverage, the best choice is the Netgear AC1750 Smart WiFi Router, it’s a fairly affordable dual band router that is made to get the job done.

Sure, you’re not getting the top of the line features that are offered by other routers in the market, but what you’re getting is pretty good, and you are getting one of the best range in wireless routers at the same time.

Best Wireless Routers for Large Homes

If you are someone who is living in a big home or a relatively large apartment, it’s safe to say that you, or someone else in the family is suffering from a terrible WiFi signal, it may not be you because the router is placed right in your room, but the fact that WiFi range suffers the most in big homes or apartments can’t be denied. Now there are a lot of WiFi range extenders available in the market, and while some may tell you that buying them is a smart choice, the actual product that you should be buying is of course a new wireless router that is powerful enough to provide you the extra range.

Google Wi-Fi systemNETGEAR OrbiEero Home WiFi System

Confused about what wireless router to pick? For long range, and top notch performance, simply go ahead and pick the Linksys WRT1900ACS. Now this router may come as a surprise to you mainly because it looks funny with the retro blue and black design, but don’t let the design elements fool you.

There’s no denying that this is in fact one of the most powerful wireless routers that are available in the market, and why? Well, the reason is simple, it offers a lot for the price you are paying, and one of the biggest concern about the WiFi range gets solved pretty easily. For starters, you should know that it easily provides enough range to have a 1,000 square feet building receive a perfect and impeccable WiFi signal.

Best Wireless Routers for Multiple Devices

If you are living in a place or working in an office that is normally crowded with people on a usual day, then having a stable internet connection at that place is nothing more than a blessing. The reason is quite simple, the more devices that are connected to internet, the more load the whole network will have, and there will come a point where the network will be close to crashing.

Netgear Nighthawk X10TP-Link AD7200 | Asus RT-AC5300

However, to make sure this doesn’t happen, the simplest away out of this mess is installing a router that is built to handle multiple devices at the same time without breaking a sweat, and in order to make sure you’re aware of such a router, we have finally found the top pick.

In comes the Asus RT-AC3200 Tri-Band Wireless Gigabit Router, and in case you are wondering why Asus is on the list, the answer to that is pretty simple; the company has been around for quite some time, and have been providing top of the line quality and performance oriented products to the masses; they have some really simple routers as well as some of the most advanced ones too.

As for the AC3200, this router is strictly performance oriented, and even if you live in a crowded place that have multiple people connected to one network, this router won’t break a sweat, and will deliver the same, equal performance to everyone.

Best Budget Wireless Routers 2017

Not everyone can afford the tri-band routers with all the latest and greatest networking standards, it’s safe to say that sometimes, people don’t feel like spending a lot of money on a wireless router, or a bound by a budget.

TP-Link Archer C7Linksys AC1750 | Linksys AC1900 | ASUS AC1750

In situations like that one, the best way is to stick with a router that is made for budget users, and considering how our list caters to users of all sorts, we have that sorted out as well, and we’re going to show you a great wireless router for budget oriented users.

In comes the TP-Link Archer C9, this is one of the best budget routers available in the market right now, and the reason why this is in our list is simply because it fits the budget of almost all the people, however, it’s not just a good budget router, it’s overall, a really good performer at the same time.

It is, obviously, a dual band router, but at the same time, it provides the user with really good networking speeds, and stable internet connection, WiFi range remains relatively respectable on both bands, the router also has one USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 port for people who are in need of file sharing and printing as well.

Overall, the router is really, really good, and offers enough to the budget minded folks who don’t want to waste a lot of money on buying something really expensive.

Best Wireless Routers Coverage 2017

WiFi coverage is perhaps one of the most important factor for people when they are looking to buy a wireless router, the reason is simple, not having an equal WiFi coverage in your home is something terrible, and while you may think that buying a WiFi range extender will solve your problems, it won’t be as effective as you may think.

In situations like this, the best way out is to buy a wireless router that provides the same amount of coverage as it does with the performance, and we are going to help you find out the best wireless router for coverage.

The router of choice for the best coverage would simply be the Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Smart Wi-Fi Router, and to be honest, there are plenty of reasons why this this router made it to our list, and one of the most common reasons is because the performance on both 2.4 gigahertz band, and the 5.0 gigahertz band is impeccable, as you may know, the former offers a greater range on a slower speed, and the latter offers a faster speed at a lower range, the perfect combination of these both factors make this router one of the best we have seen in the entire list, and perfect for people who are looking to have a router with great range, and speed at the same time.

Best Wireless Routers for Comcast 2017

For those who don’t know, Comcast is basically a very famous cable provider, and while a lot of people don’t intend to use it, there are a lot of people who prefer using Comcast with their router/modem.

Google Wi-Fi systemNETGEAR OrbiEero Home WiFi System

Now the thing is that finding a Comcast compatible router is somewhat difficult, however, with proper research, you can actually find the right type of device you’re normally looking for. With that said, for us, finding the Comcast supported router wasn’t all that difficult mainly because we had it in the list already.

The top pick here would be the ARRIS SURFboard SB6190 DOCSIS 3.0; now we know this isn’t the most commonly sought out router when it comes to sheer performance, but the good thing about this router/modem comes with full support for the Comcast as well as some of the other cable services that provide this sort of service.

Best Long Rang Wireless Routers 2017

One of the many reasons for spending money on a wireless router is the fact that people want to have a good WiFi range, keeping that in mind, a wireless router that doesn’t provide you with a good range is basically worth nothing.

Google Wi-Fi systemNETGEAR OrbiEero Home WiFi System | Netgear Nighthawk X10TP-Link AD7200 | Asus RT-AC5300

Before we go even further, the most common thing about wireless router is that the 2.4 gigahertz band is the slowest but has the best range, the 5 gigahertz band is faster with low range, and the 6 gigahertz band is the fastest, with the lowest range.

So, by that definition, if you want to have a wireless router that provides you with the most amount of range, then the best would be to simply go for a router that that is at least offering dual bands.

The router of choice here would be the Linksys AC1750 Dual-Band Smart Wireless Router, and for those who don’t know, this is easily one of the best routers that are out in the market when it comes to providing the best price to performance ratio.

Now for those who don’t know, this router is simply among the list mainly because it is providing users with excellent speed, and great WiFi range at the same time. Sure, it’s a dual band router but considering how this router is on the top when it comes to great range, it is a no brainer when it comes to picking this for the sake of range.

Best AC Wireless Routers 2017

Are you the type of internet user who is always looking for the fastest available internet, and you also want to purchase a really fast wireless router that will help you with all that need for speed?

Netgear Nighthawk X10TP-Link AD7200 | Asus RT-AC5300

Well, don’t worry, there’s plenty for you in the market. However, the latest craze in the wireless router market is definitely the AC standard that has been announced, this is one of the fastest standards out there, and more and more users are looking to invest in an AC router.

We managed to go through the entire list and find the best wireless router that has the AC standard out in the market at the moment.

The router for choice would obviously be the ASUS RT-AC3200, and in case you are wondering that is the case, we actually have several reasons behind it; first things first, this router is incredibly fast, and that is certainly a good thing, it is also a tri-band router, and lastly, it’s equipped with the most all the famous and modern WiFi and networking standards that are required by the networking enthusiasts. That is the reason why this router has made it into the list.

Best Affordable Wireless Routers 2017

It’s a simple fact to admit that not everyone is willing to spend hundreds of dollars on a router just so they can have fancy looking build qualities, innumerous about of antennas, and WiFi standards they are not even going to use. Sometimes, the best way is the simple way, and that’s why the market is filled with people browsing for affordable routers that are simply made to get the job done.

TP-Link Archer C7Linksys AC1750 | Linksys AC1900 | ASUS AC1750

Well, don’t worry, the good news is that there are a lot of routers available for budget oriented users, and the best thing is that we managed to find one of the cheapest, most powerful dual band wireless router you can buy right now, and considering how the router is pretty good, there are several amazing deals on them as well.

With that said, let’s take at the best wireless router that is both affordable, and performs like a champion too.

Say hello to the TP-Link Archer C7, this one happens to be slightly cheaper than the Archer C9, but offers a lot of great features that will be good for anyone who’s looking to stay within budget, and get what suits them best.

Sure, the router doesn’t offer all those fancy features normally people look for in the routers, but what it does offer is fantastic value for money, great WiFi range, and overall, very, very respectable performance as well. Needless to say, the router is one of the best we have seen in the market it comes to having a great value for money, and being affordable at the same time.

Best Wireless Routers by Price 2017

There’s no denying that there are innumerous amounts of routers available in the market that cost a crazy amount of money but when it comes to delivering a great performance, they simply fail to do so. It’s almost like the companies don’t pay much attention to making those routers practically better, and all the money goes into how they are designed.

While this practice has been around for quite some time, a lot of people just don’t appreciate that and look for the router that offers the best price to performance ratio. We had a lot of readers asking this question, and after carefully going through all the routers in the list, we finally managed to pick the winner.

In our opinion, the router that offers the best price to performance ratio in the market is definitely the famous Linksys WRT1900ACS Dual-Band Gigabit Wi-Fi Router. Now, in case you are wondering why this router made it to the list is mainly because

1) it’s one of the best routers in the market in terms of performance,

2) it offers one of the best price to performance ratio we have seen on any router.

That’s clearly a reason why anyone would want to pick this router over the others that are available in the market.

Best Dual Band Wireless Routers 2017

For those who don’t know about dual band routers, these routers are basically the routers that have one 2.4 gigahertz band, and one 5 gigahertz band. As for the triple band or tri-band routers, they have a single 2.4 gigahertz band, and a dual 5 gigahertz band. With that said, if you are someone who isn’t in the need of a tri-band router, the best bed would be a dual band router that still manages to provide a lot of good features and performance in the price tag.
